Home Security Systems – Protect Your Family & Assets
One of the first things that homeowners do after they have had their homes burglarized is to invest in a home security system. To often this is when homeowners wish they had a home alarm system installed in the first place. There can be an extreme financial and emotional burden if you have your home invaded, and securing your home with an alarm system is a great way to deter criminals.
Having your sense of safety broken is terrifying, especially if you are at home during a break in. Having to pay to replace stolen items can also be a big burden as criminals can get away with thousands of dollars worth of items in a short period of time. And if they damaged the property in the process the homeowner is left holding the bag.
There are a number of benefits to having a home alarm system. Deterring crime is the biggest benefit. Homes with security system stickers or signs are much less likely to be burglarized. Statistics show that homes that have security systems are 3 to 4 times less likely to be broken into. Career criminals like to go for easy break ins. If a home appears to be well secured most burglars will not want to go through the hassle of breaking in.
Interestingly, the presence of a security system (sign or sticker present) also protects cars that are parked in the driveway of the home. They are half as likely to be stolen or broken into.
In addition to this, having a security system may actually lower your homeowner’s insurance. It may also get you significant discounts with other companies like AARP, for example. This is not the case for all types of security systems so it is a good idea to ask your insurance representatives for details. Homeowners with security systems are a lower risk to insurance companies because their homes are less likely to be burglarized. Since the homeowner has made an investment to keep their homes safe, insurance companies are willing to give them discounts on their homeowners insurance.
